Two men have been charged in connection with the death of a 39-year-old.

Andrew Peart died following a suspected assault near a working men's club in Guide Post, Northumberland, last year.

A 28-year-old man was charged with his murder and last appeared before Newcastle Crown Court on 13 February 2024.

Another two men, aged 39 and 36, have been charged with assisting an offender in relation to Mr Peart's death and were due to appear in magistrates' court on 21 March.

Mr Peart was checked into Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington on 23 August 2023 after he suffered a head injury.

While in hospital, his condition deteriorated and he died on 30 August.

'Difficult seven months'

Northumbria Police believe Mr Peart's injuries were sustained during a suspected assault on Stakeford Lane, near Guide Post Working Men's Club at about 22:10 BST on 22 August.

The 28-year-old suspect was initially charged with manslaughter, but was later charged with murder.

Det Ch Insp Graeme Barr said: "Our thoughts remain firmly with Andrew’s friends and loved ones.

"The last seven months have been incredibly difficult for them and we continue to offer any support they need."

He asked the public to "refrain from any speculation" about the case as it could impact ongoing legal proceedings.
