A man has been charged with murder over the death of a man who was found with serious injuries in a park, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police said Headley Thomas, who was known as Barry, was subjected to a "horrific" attack in Penn Park in Old Trafford on 12 September 2022.

The 51-year-old died of his injuries on 2 October.

The force said Joshua Carroll, 29, of no fixed abode had been charged with murder and was due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court later.

Paying tribute at the time of his death, Mr Thomas's family said he had been a "protective, funny, loyal and caring man with a huge heart to match".

They added that their world had been "altered forever" and he would be "forever loved by his family, children and friends".
