A cycle race is returning to Beverley later.

The British Cycling National Circuit Series features nearly 300 riders taking part in six events.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, described it as a “real coup”.

Last held in 2017, previous winners of the Beverley Grand Prix include three-time Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy.

Mr Coultish said: “This a really exciting event. People will get the chance to see some of Britain’s best cyclists in action, close up, on the same day the Olympic Games gets underway."

Organisers said people can watch events for free and were encouraged to line the race route.

The Beverley Community Ride will take place at 16:00 BST on roads around a circuit of the town.

Roads around the course will be temporarily closed including:

Sow Hill, Old Walkergate, Railway Street, Lord Roberts Road, and Cross Street.

Pedestrian areas in Butcher Row, Toll Gavel and Wednesday Market will be closed off.

Car parks around the course will be temporarily closed including:

  • Saturday Market from 06:00 - 00:00

  • Wednesday Market from 14:00 - 23:00

  • School Lane from 14:00 - 23:00

  • Spencer Street from 14:00 - 23:00

  • Lord Roberts Road from 14:00 - 23:00

Beverley Bus Station will be closed from 15:00 - 23:00.
