Southeastern is launching a recruitment drive, with a range of jobs available across its network.

It comes after the rail operator saw an increase of 16,000 people applying for jobs at the company in the last year.

The firm said it was looking to recruit staff across Kent, predominantly at Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells railway stations.

Gate line staff member Alexander Mills said: "There's so much opportunity. If you're passionate about people, engineering or helping communities, the railway has a place for you."

Mr Mills, from Crowborough, East Sussex, had family connections to the railway industry as his grandfather worked at a depot in south London, and he described him as an "inspiration".

The 22-year-old said: "As a child, I volunteered at the Crowborough Miniature Railway, then went on to help out at both the Bluebell Railway and the Spa Valley Railway.

"Like a lot of people, when I came to choose my career, it was very difficult as there are so many options. However, I have had a lifelong love of the railway, so I feel right at home."

A recruitment day is taking place at Tonbridge Castle between 10:00 BST and 15:00 on Tuesday.
