A man his 70s has died more than a week after an assault that left him with serious head and facial injuries.

Dorset Police said the attack happened on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth shortly before 20:15 GMT on 10 December.

The victim, 75-year-old Anthony Jacob from Weymouth, was taken to hospital following the incident, and died there on Thursday.

Jake Saunders, 19, was arrested and charged with attempted murder by police soon after the attack.

Mr Saunders, also from Weymouth, is due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on 9 January 2025.

Det Ch Insp Neil Third said specially trained officers were supporting Mr Jacob's family.

"We are grateful to members of the public who have provided information to assist our enquiries so far, and I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us," he added.
