Tributes have been paid to a "friendly and generous" man whose death has sparked a murder investigation.

Hampshire Constabulary were called to a report of a man having been seriously assaulted at an address in Matley Gardens, Totton, at about 13:30 BST on Thursday.

Nigel Key, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 31-year-old man, from Totton, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mr Key's family said they would miss the "devoted family man loved by family and friends".

"He was always friendly, generous, neighbourly and helpful to everyone. A skilled engineer respected by his peers," they added.

"He will always be remembered."

The arrested man was taken to hospital for medical treatment and has been detained under the Mental Health Act after being assessed by medical professionals in custody, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
