Woman dies in two-car collision at crossroads

A woman has died following a collision involving two cars at a crossroads in North Yorkshire.

Police were called to reports of a crash on the A19 near Birdforth, north of Easingwold, at about 13:15 BST on Tuesday.

A woman in her 30s, who was driving a red Vauxhall Corsa, died at the scene, according to North Yorkshire Police.

A woman in her 40s, who was driving a blue Skoda Enyaq, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

She had since been released while investigations continued into the collision, which happened at the Carlton Husthwaite and Hutton Sessay junction, police said.

Air ambulance, fire and police crews all attended the scene.

Part of the A19 was closed while the scene was cleared, but was reopened at about 19:00 BST on Tuesday.

North Yorkshire Police asked anyone with information about what happened or dashcam footage from the scene to get in touch.
