Jersey's biggest paddle out planned for charities
- Published
Two charities have asked people to join them to create the biggest paddle out Jersey has seen.
Healing Waves has organised the event for 30 June at St Brelade’s Bay to raise money for the charity for RNLI Jersey.
A paddle out is a traditional Hawaiian tribute to honour the life and legacy of a person who has died and it is popular within the surfing community.
The charities hope up to 350 people attend the paddle out.
Vicky Cushing, from Healing Waves, has helped organise the event.
She said "everybody sounds keen" about the paddle out and there has been lots of interest with "several surfing schools signing up" as they want to "reach Jersey’s water-based communities".
"It will be amazing to get as many people as possible out together and raising funds for not just one, but two amazing causes," Ms Cushing added.
The world record for the biggest paddle out is 511 people and Ms Cushing said it "would be really cool" if they could break that record one day.
