Armed police were sent to Byker to hunt for the attacker

A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a gun attack.
Firearms officers were called to a shooting in the Headlam Green area of Byker, Newcastle, on Wednesday afternoon.
A man in his 40s remains in hospital with gunshot wounds, but officers said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
A 21-year-old man who was arrested at the time had been released and would face no further action, Northumbria Police said.
The 50-year-old remained in police custody while the investigation continued, officers added.
