A man charged with murder is believed to have travelled overseas soon after the alleged incident, police have confirmed.

Danyal Iqbal, previously of Popple Street in Sheffield, is accused of murdering 23-year-old Hamza Mohammed in June 2024.

The 21-year-old suspect, who was absent from a hearing at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on 15 September in which he was charged, is being sought by police.

Det Ch Insp Tom Woodward said South Yorkshire Police asked anyone with information on his whereabouts, "no matter how small or insignificant", to contact the force immediately.

"This could be the missing piece that we need to bring him before the courts," he added.

Emergency services had been called at about 16:35 BST on 8 June to reports of a serious assault at a takeaway on Staniforth Road in Darnall.

Mr Mohammed was found with a serious head injury and taken to hospital where he died two days later.
