"Amusing" vandalism on a sign in West Sussex has been removed after being flagged by a local councillor.

The sign for Canal Place in Chichester had the 'C' painted over, leaving the sign spelling 'Anal Place'.

Local Liberal Democrat councillor James Vivian said swift action was taken to repair the damage.

"Whilst we appreciate the creativity and humour of the vandalism, which has generated plenty of social media chatter over the last few days, we hope that it will not become a recurring issue as each repair incurs time and cost," he added.

On social media, the councillor said although it was "amusing", it was "important to have pride" in the area.

"Hopefully the coverage has highlighted an issue of concern," he added.
