The family of an artist who died after being hit by a car in Cornwall have paid tribute to him.

Arthur Orum, 77, died on 30 December after the crash on Tregenna Place in St Ives.

Mr Orum's family's tribute highlighted his "truly wonderful life" and "incredible artistic talent".

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 29-year-old woman from the town was arrested after the crash but later released pending further inquiries.

In a statement released via the force, they said Mr Orum moved to St Ives after growing up on a lake in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, in the US.

He first visited the town more than 40 years ago and "was captivated by the sea and the surrounding beauty of Cornwall", they said.

The family said: "St Ives became the place he loved the most and where he was the happiest.

"He enjoyed a truly wonderful life painting, salsa dancing, playing the piano at the Kettle & Wink [pub], and using his bus pass, which he thought was the most brilliant invention.

"Arthur’s beautiful art will live on and remind us all of how special, loving and creative he was in life.

“He will be missed by his many friends, his two brothers and his many nieces and nephews."

Police appeal

They added that he would be remembered for his "wonderful sense of humour, his love of nature and long walks, his devotion to his family and his incredible artistic talent".

"A celebration of Arthur’s life will be held in St Ives in the near future," the family said.

Police appealed for any witnesses of the crash who had not yet made themselves known to get in contact.
