Work has started on a £2.3m training centre for college students looking to break into the green and digital technology sectors.

The Advanced Green Technologies (AGT) Hub at Stoke-on-Tent College in Burslem will provide teaching spaces for construction and engineering students studying Level 2 to Level 5 BTec courses.

Set to open in spring 2026, the centre will include hands-on training for areas like retrofitting, solar energy systems, drone technology and robotics.

It will also serve as an incubation hub, the college said, by providing space for employers working in the green and digital technology fields.

It is hoped the new site will help to boost the number of people with manufacturing and engineering skills across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, which supported the project, said the centre would provide "vital training opportunities" that will help shape the area's future workforce.

The college confirmed construction was "now under way" and said the hub would become a "cornerstone of sustainable skills development in the region".
