Groups of youths in West Bromwich will be moved on by police this weekend after a person was assaulted and passers-by faced intimidating behaviour.

The 48-hour dispersal order was put in place on Friday night following multiple reports of antisocial behaviour on High Street, New Street and New Square.

It has been linked to "a large group of youths in the town centre who have been intimidating members of the public," police added.

The order means officers will be able to moved on anyone suspected of crime and disorder from a large area around the town centre.

Insp James Proffitt said: "We won't tolerate this kind of behaviour and we have put the Section 35 dispersal in place to move anyone on who we believe may be causing problems."

The force would also have extra officers in the area over the weekend, he added.

The dispersal order will remain in place until Sunday 21:00 BST.
