A third arrest has been made after a man was seriously injured when he was stabbed on a cycle path in York.

North Yorkshire Police said a man, 25, from Leeds was arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident, which took place at around 19:50 BST on 22 August, on the route near Derwent Avenue.

A man aged in his 50s, from York, was taken to hospital with leg and abdomen injuries, with the force adding they believe the incident was targeted.

A man in his fifties was arrested shortly after the incident and has been released without charge.

Another man, 19, from Leeds, was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He has since been released on conditional police bail as the investigation continues.

The 25-year-old remains in police custody while being questioned.

Anyone with any information is asked to get in touch with the force.
