The "most hit" railway bridge in Britain - near Ely station - has been struck again

A road has been blocked after a van driver found themselves stuck under the "most bashed" bridge in Britain.

Station Road in Ely, Cambridgeshire, was blocked for recovery efforts after the van became wedged under the railway bridge.

The structure was given the title of the most struck by Network Rail after 18 incidents were recorded in 2023-24.

In February, the bridge, near Ely railway station, was shut for more than two hours after a removal van got stuck underneath.

A spokesperson from Cambridgeshire Police said: "The driver of this van missed or missjudged the 'very low bridge' sign in Station Road, Ely, this lunchtime.

"As a result the road is currently blocked while the vehicle is recovered."
