Firefighters to collect old Christmas trees
- Published
Firefighters will be collecting used Christmas trees in Guernsey this year to raise money for charity.
Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) said its volunteers would collect the trees while off-duty in their own time with their own vehicles.
The service said all the money raised would go to charity and collections would take place soon after Christmas.
Firefighter Charlie Roger said they could only collect real trees and not trees that have been sprayed with fake snow or similar products.
'Grateful for donations'
Mr Roger said: "This year we're once again looking to collect Christmas trees from around the island to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.
"It’s a cause that is clearly very close to the hearts of all of us at the GFRS, and we wanted to do something to raise support for them, while also giving back to the community.
"All of the collections will be done in our free time, and we’d be grateful for any donations people are willing to give."
Islanders were asked to email or text the volunteers with their address and preferred collection day nearer to the time to arrange collection.
