Volunteers from the fire and rescue service will be collecting used Christmas trees in Guernsey after the festive period.

The Firefighters Charity committee, which provides workers with health and wellbeing services, will collect the trees while off duty to raise money.

The collections will take place on 27, 28 and 29 December and 2 and 3 January, between 08:00 and 14:00 GMT.

The trees will be used as animal feed and for fencing.

No fake snow

Volunteer Divon Crouse said the trees would be "a flame of support".

He said: "The Firefighters Charity is a cause that is clearly very close to the hearts of myself and my colleagues, and we wanted to take this opportunity to both give back to the community by helping them dispose of their trees while also raising money for a worthy charity.

"We will be doing the collections in our free time and would be grateful for any donations people are willing to give."

The collections will be for real trees, and not for those that have been "sprayed with fake snow or similar appliances".
