New building planned at Rolls-Royce site in Derby

The firm wants to replace "outdated infrastructure" at the Sinfin A site in Derby

A major building project is planned by Rolls-Royce at its Sinfin A site in Derby.

The aerospace and defence firm has asked Derby City Council if an environmental impact assessment would be required when a full planning application is submitted for a new manufacturing services building.

If approved, the project would see a 3,000 sq m (32,291 sq ft) two-storey building built off Victory Road.

A letter to the council states construction would take about 10 months and "would support the replacement of outdated infrastructure" at the site.

The document adds: "These upgrades will enable Rolls-Royce to improve operational efficiency, enhance working conditions, and ensure compliance with current health, safety, and environmental standards."

According to the letter, if the project gets the go-ahead, the building will have a sloped roof of up to 12.6m (8.5ft) with solar panels and plastic rooflights.

It will be used for manufacturing as well as office space and "welfare areas" alongside toilets and a canteen.

No changes to the access to Sinfin A are planned, the letter adds.

The council hopes to rule over the need for an environmental impact assessment by early November, ahead of a formal application for the scheme being submitted.
