The premises at Albert Pier in Guernsey could be modernised and regenerated

Plans have been put forward to regenerate an old building at a pier in Guernsey.

Albert Pier in St Peter Port is home to the Pier 17 restaurant and ports bosses said the premises could be modernised with investment.

Ross Copollo, Guernsey Ports managing director said the ports were approached by the current tenant at Pier 17 with proposals to improve the overall site.

He added the building was aging and although plans were at an early stage, "if commercial and viable this initiative could potentially be a very significant regeneration opportunity".

He said the proposals maximised the space available, promoted the sea views and offered modern facilities.

"Architects have prepared early conceptual designs that explore how the site could look, and the commerciality and viability of these are being considered along with a number of other options," he said.

He added: "Guernsey Ports will continue to review these proposals as they are progressed in greater detail in the coming months."

Seamus Duggan, owner of Pier 17, said: "The possibility of the development is exciting however it's still very early stages."
