Four libraries could be relocated under council plans to save money.

Under Coventry City Council's proposal, services at the buildings in Bell Green, Canley, Coundon, and Holbrooks would be moved elsewhere.

The libraries would be based alongside other council services at venues including a leisure centre, and added three of the libraries would move to smaller spaces, and have fewer books available.

The potential change is part of a bid by the authority to save about £3m in its revenue budget per year.

Reports recognise the changes would have both positive and negative effects, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

There may be further travel times for the public, as well as an effect on staffing levels.

The potential move also means some libraries would share buildings with family and dementia services.

Negative effects on people using these services would have to be mitigated, the report stated.

However, it added bringing services together would be helpful.

"We are proposing to do this by making the most of our buildings and people – bringing services together in shared spaces whilst reducing the number of buildings we operate from,” the council said on its website.

It added that it was still at an early stage with the plans, and was "exploring potential options" for any buildings that would become empty.

Residents in the city have until 4 November to submit their views on the change, via the council's website.
