The organisers of what is claimed to be the UK's largest one-day festive market have confirmed it will return to East Yorkshire.

The Beverley Festival of Christmas is being held in the town on 8 December.

The annual event, which features more than 120 stalls selling food, drink, arts and crafts, is now in its 28th year and attracts thousands of visitors.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, described it as a "flagship event" for the region.

"It is always hugely popular, with visitors from all over the UK coming to enjoy the festive stalls and entertainment," he said.

"We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors as we get into the festive spirit in preparation for Christmas.’’

He added that it was also an "important date in the calendar" for businesses and traders.

This year’s festival has been supported through government funding and is sponsored by local hotel, The Beverley Arms.

Further details on entertainment and travel information would be made available in the run-up to the event, officials said.
