Two in hospital after crash which shut motorway for hours

The motorway was closed for several hours as a result of the crash

Two men are in hospital following a two-car crash which closed the A74(M) motorway in southern Scotland for about eight hours.

Emergency services were called out to the incident on the southbound carriageway near Johnstonebridge at about 13:00 on Tuesday.

A 23-year-old man who was driving a black Seat Leon was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The 48-year-old man driving a white Tesla involved in the crash was taken by to Dumfries Infirmary. The road reopened at about 21:00.

Sgt Colin Ramage appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come get in touch.

"Members of the public are thanked for their patience yesterday," he said.

"We appreciate this caused delays on the road network, however it was essential to ensure the safety of officers and other road users while inquiries were carried out."
