A man convicted of repeatedly stealing from shops has been given a legal order preventing him going into a number of stores.

Alan Kendrick, 47, from Whitehaven in Cumbria, has been given a community behaviour order which will stop him from going into any shop in Workington or Whitehaven in the Shop Watch Scheme for the next two years.

He has also been jailed for 24 weeks for stealing from three supermarkets in the past five months.

If he is caught in breach of the order, the punishment can be up to five years in prison.

Kendrick, of Peter Street, was sentenced after being convicted of three offences of stealing from Morrisons in Whitehaven, between December last year and January.

He also stole from Tesco in Whitehaven and Home Bargains in Workington, all in March.
