More "skilled temporary staff" have been employed by the States of Guernsey to work through filing 2022's tax returns.

The States confirmed in the last two months before the deadline it had received more than 57% of the expected number of personal tax returns.

A spokesperson also said they received "a higher than usual" number of enquiries over the same period of time.

Nicky Foreshaw, director of the revenue service, said staff were working "extremely hard to process returns in a timely manner".

Officials have urged islanders to file their 2023 tax return before the final few weeks ahead of the deadline on 31 January 2025.

The 2023 return is the first where each individual is responsible for their own tax affairs regardless of their marital status.
