A woman has been arrested after two homes in Maidstone were damaged when a car crashed into them.

Kent Police said the crash in Farleigh Hill, Maidstone, just before 19:30 GMT on Thursday, happened after a motorist "failed to stop" following a request from officers.

Images posed on social media show a dark car with its front end ploughed into the front of the houses, with bricks and other debris strewn on the pavement.

A woman who lives in one of the homes told the BBC she no longer has a front door.

The woman said she went into "panic mode" when it happened, and that she no longer wants to stay there.

She added that it was the second time the property has been damaged. The first time involved a car that did not have its handbrake on.

Kent Police said in a statement that a car failed to stop when requested to do so before the crash.

A woman in her 20s from Maidstone was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Ch Insp Mark McLellan said: "A thorough investigation is underway into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision."

He added officers have contacted the housing association responsible for the properties, and will continue to work collaboratively with them as enquiries progress.
