Seventy-five pigs have died in a fire at a building housing 400 of the animals.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the structure at the Peddards Pigs farm in Cookley, near Halesworth, was well alight when crews were called at 07:27 BST.

A vet at the scene would "humanely euthanise pigs with non-survivable burns to prevent further suffering", a fire service spokesperson said.

Station manager Adam Eagle confirmed the fire was extinguished by 10:57 and an investigation into the cause was due to commence.

"The staff on site and the owners of the site acted quickly to be able to remove the livestock from the premises," said Mr Eagle.

The farmer and local community were rounding up other animals, he said.

Five crews from Framlingham, Wrentham, Leiston, Bungay and Saxmundham were called to the building, which measured 30m by 20m (98ft by 66ft), and found multiple fires inside.

Crews used two hose jets and a water carrier to tackle the blaze.
