'Studying to become a nurse was a daily challenge'

A badging ceremony was held at the University of Wolverhampton to celebrate its nursing cohorts

A mother-of-three has been celebrated for her "exceptional" efforts in her journey to become a nurse.
Amal Hussain said balancing work, motherhood and studying for her Master of Adult Nursing at the University of Wolverhampton was a daily challenge.
"I studied at the dinner table, in quiet corners of the park, and during night shifts. I missed school drop-offs and movie nights, but I never gave up," she said.
Ms Hussain was recognised during a badging ceremony held at the Chancellors Hall, attended by staff, family and friends.
Ms Hussain, who graduated with distinction, said her journey to becoming a nurse was anything but conventional.
She said:"I became a single mum at a very young age. I worked long hours in private care to support my children while studying health and social care and functional skills.
"It was the first time I took a moment to myself and said, 'I am proud of my achievements and the person I've become.'"
After receiving the news she had been employed as a Band 5 public health nurse, she said: "I cried and hugged my family. I couldn't believe it. I am a nurse!"
The university said Ms Hussain's story is a "powerful reminder" of the strength and resilience that define the nursing profession.
It said: "Her success is not only a personal triumph but also a beacon of hope for others facing adversity."
Programme leader Tracy Lapworth added: "These students have shown extraordinary resilience and kindness,
"Their teamwork and compassion for one another have left a lasting impression on us all.
"Certain cohorts leave their footsteps imprinted on our hearts, and we will cherish a piece of them that will never depart."
