Police arrest 22 people for drink and drug driving

Twenty-two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs over the Christmas period, Isle of Man Constabulary said.
Operation Ripple Effect ran between 29 November and 4 January in a bid to step up action against dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, Operation Uplift spanned the same period and aimed to improve the standards of vehicles across the island's roads.
Police said as part of those operations officer stopped 198 vehicles, with 117 of them found to have a defect.
'Swift and robust'
There were also nine drivers who had committed documentation offences having been found to have no licence, insurance or tax.
The operations were carried out in partnership with the road safety team and local neighbourhood policing teams.
Isle of Man Constabulary said it would approach those who "make the wrong decision in a swift and robust manner".
Those who make the "deliberate choice" to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs pose a risk to the public, the force said.
"It can be costly to not only themselves, but to the person they could collide with, or the family and friends of someone seriously injured as a result," it added.
