Police have completed an investigation into a nursery worker accused of assaulting a child and will take no further action.

Gloucestershire Police said it reviewed CCTV footage of the incident at Partou Barnwood Day Nursery in Gloucester and found it "did not constitute an assault and therefore the threshold to prosecute was not met".

The nursery closed after education watchdog Ofsted suspended its registration to practice on 13 October and said it believed children may have been "at risk of harm".

Ofsted confirmed the suspension was lifted on Friday and said more information would be released in due course. Partou said the nursery will reopen on Tuesday.

In a statement, Gloucestershire Police confirmed no arrests were made and said the police case has been closed.

A Partou spokesperson said regulatory processes led by Ofsted and its designated local authority officer are "proceeding at pace" alongside an internal investigation.

"These are governed by strict statutory timelines and confidentiality requirements to protect those involved," they added.

"The families are being kept updated on progress."
