Dispersal order put in place in Derby
- Published
Police in Derbyshire have imposed a dispersal order in Derby city centre following recent unrest across England.
The order means police officers have the power to ask groups of two or more people to leave the area if there are concerns over their behaviour.
It also covers Normanton and Pear Tree, and came into force from 12:00 BST on Wednesday until 07:00 on Thursday.
Hundreds of people have been arrested in connection with riots and protests following the deaths of three girls in an attack in Southport last month.
While no disturbances have taken place in Derby, people from Derbyshire have been arrested over disorder elsewhere, with one woman from West Hallam sentenced over her behaviour during the Nottingham protests on Saturday.
Anyone refusing to comply with the dispersal order can be arrested and fined up to £2,500 and/or receive a three-month prison sentence.
