A £3m project to create new changing rooms and improve football pitches at a Hull park is under way, officials have said.

The work, at Bude Park in the Bransholme area of the city, will see a new pavilion and kitchen built, new drainage on the pitches and expanded car parking facilities.

Hull City Council said the work was being supported by funding from the Football Foundation.

The grassed area of the park will be out of action until 2025 while the work takes place.

Cllr Rob Pritchard said: "Bude Park is a popular facility, but one which is liable to flooding, so this investment will ensure pitches can be utilised more.

"This is an exciting project which will benefit the local community, as well as adult and junior teams, who call it home."

'Transformative impact'

The first phase of the work will see improvement work on the pitches before the construction of the pavilion takes place.

The new building will house changing rooms, facilities for referees, toilets and showers as well as a kitchen to serve hot drinks and snacks.

Robert Sullivan, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: "Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health.

"They also play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities."
