Eurovision anniversary events to be held in city

Liverpool hosted Eurovision 2023 on behalf of Ukraine

Liverpool will host a series of free events to mark a year since they hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.

Fans will be able to relive memories of the event, which Liverpool hosted on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine, who were unable to do so during the ongoing war with Russia.

It attracted about 300,000 visitors to the city, which gave the local economy a £55m boost.

Artists will perform across Liverpool, with butterfly lanterns and a submarine decorated in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag.

Sweden is hosting this year's contest in the coastal city of Malmö and music fans in Liverpool will be able to watch the final later at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool.

Swedish singer Loreen won in 2023 with Tattoo, becoming the first woman to win the contest twice, after triumphing in 2012 with her song Euphoria.

The theme of the 2024 contest is "united by music", and it features 37 performers chosen to represent their country.

Liverpool City Council said the city was the best place to attend a cultural event in the UK.

It is the only English city outside London to stage Taylor Swift’s concerts this summer and recently hosted several Lord of Rings actors and other Hollywood stars for Comic Con, which will return in autumn.
