A garden shed fire which spread to the ground floor of a Plymouth property was started deliberately, firefighters said.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) said it was called to the incident on St Levan Road at 08:13 BST on Thursday where occupants had evacuated.

It said the ground floor of the property suffered "significant smoke damage" and some fire damage.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a temporary road closure was put in place.

DSFRS said it believed the fire was started deliberately and an investigation is under way.

Firefighters said crews from Camels Head, Crownhill and Greenbank fire stations were sent to the scene.

Police and the fire service remained at the scene until about 13:00.
