CPS considering charges over fatal police crash

Prosecutors are considering whether to bring charges against a police officer whose patrol car struck and killed a woman in Liverpool on Christmas Eve.
Rachael Moore, 22, was walking home from her job as a carer when she was killed on Sheil Road, Kensington, on 24 December 2022.
The single-crewed Merseyside Police vehicle had been responding to an emergency call when it hit Ms Moore as she crossed the road at 20:09 GMT.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it had now handed a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for consideration of charges.
'Cherished daughter'
The IOPC announced in February 2023 that it was investigating potential offences of causing death by dangerous driving.
That investigation, which started after Merseyside Police referred itself to the watchdog, has now concluded.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said: "As part of our enquiries, we reviewed body worn footage, CCTV footage, police incident and scene logs, obtained accounts from officers and witnesses and the officer driving the vehicle was interviewed under criminal caution."
The evidence gathered was handed to the CPS in April this year.
An inquest into her death in 2023 heard the police officer tried to help Ms Moore before paramedics arrived and took over, but she died at the scene.
And the time of her death, Ms Moore's family described her as a "cherished daughter" and a "caring friend to many".
They said they "fully supported" the IOPC investigation and urged any witnesses to come forward.
