A man has been arrested after cannabis with a street value of £1m was seized by police.

Essex Police said it was called to reports of a "suspicious incident" on Perry Wood in Witham on Wednesday morning.

Police seized more than 300kg of cannabis, which had an estimated street value of £1m.

Insp Phil Jackson said: "Our officers have again seized a significant quantity of suspected controlled drugs that now cannot be used to fund organised crime and blight our neighbourhoods."

The man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug and was later released on conditional bail while investigations continued.

Insp Jackson added: "Drugs offences are not victimless crimes and bring anti-social behaviour and associated crimes into our neighbourhoods and can lead to further harm to residents and businesses."
