Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was "punctured" in the face by another man on a bike, with what police believe was a screwdriver.

Wiltshire Police received reports of the assault on the junction of New Canal and Milford Street, in Salisbury at about 02:30 GMT on Tuesday.

The victim sustained facial injuries including a puncture wound just below his eye, which required hospital treatment.

The suspect, who was riding a push bike, is described as being a man wearing black clothes and a face covering.

He is thought to have been cycling around the city centre for some time before the incident.

There is likely to be an increased police presence in the area while officers carry out inquiries, a force spokesperson said.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact the force.
