A major road through Essex was shut after what National Highways said was a medical emergency.

The closure was made on the southbound A12 between Mountnessing and the Brook Street roundabout in Brentwood.

An air ambulance landed at the scene and motorists were warned of lengthy delays from about 08:10 BST.

National Highways asked those using the road to follow diversion routes.
