The reopening of Goole Hub has been delayed.

The refurbished centre in North Street was originally expected to open in summer 2025.

The council said the building, previously known as East Riding Leisure Goole, was now scheduled to open its doors to the public in early 2026.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the delay was unavoidable because of "unforeseen structural, mechanical and electrical complications discovered during intensive investigations following the building's closure in December".

Sports, exercise classes, health programmes and other activities will still continue at other venues in Goole.

'Committed to project'

The Goole Hub will include more than 17,000 sq-ft (1,600 sq-m) of new space, including a central food court, library, customer service centre, tag active area, ten-pin bowling alley, soft play area, new learner pool with a health suite and expanded gym and fitness facilities.

Goole Library and the town's customer service centre, both currently in Carlisle Street, will be relocated to the new hub.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We are committed to this project and we are working diligently behind the scenes with our contractors to address these issues.

"Preparatory work will continue on the site, paving the way for the main demolition and construction activities which are now set to begin later this year."
