Murder arrests over stab death in port town

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in a port town.

Lloyd Velasquez, 34, died in hospital after being attacked in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, at about 20:20 BST on Wednesday, police said.

A 19-year-old and a 21-year-old, both from Ellesmere Port, are being questioned in custody.

Cheshire Police said Mr Velasquez's family had been informed and his relatives were being supported by specialist officers.

Ch Supt Jon Betts said: “We would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident.

“I understand the concern that this is likely to cause, but we would like to assure residents that this type of incident is incredibly rare in Cheshire."

Extra patrols will be in the area of Summertrees Road to provide reassurance and anyone with information is urged to come forward, he added.
