Shoplifter jailed and banned from city centre

A "prolific" shoplifter whom police said consistently caused issues for shopkeepers has been jailed and banned from entering parts of Coventry.
Basharat Hussain, 51, was sentenced at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to six weeks in prison after pleading guilty to shoplifting.
Due to what police said was a "spree of anti-social behaviour", Hussain was also made subject of a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), banning him from entering any shop in the city centre.
The West Midlands force said the order also prohibited him from entering the city centre generally, unless for an arranged appointment with police or probation.
"Hussain is the latest in a series of prolific offenders we have served with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO)," a West Midlands Police spokesperson said.
"The terms of these orders allow us to ban known offenders from areas where they are known to cause problems," they added.
"They can be arrested for going to those areas and put back before the court immediately."
