A multimillion-pound regeneration project will get under way later this month.

The Market Square and Greenmarket redevelopment in Carlisle will undergo final checks from 12 August and construction will begin from 19 August.

A 6,000 sq m (64,583 sq ft) area in the city centre will see works to create an events space and involve the relocation of the war memorial.

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

The project also plans to remove two trees affected by Ash Dieback and plant four new ones.
