Blackpool Promenade will be closed to traffic on the evening of 26 August as the annual Ride the Lights takes place.

The event gives cyclists a sneak preview of the six miles of the resort's Illuminations, three days before they are switched on - this year by singer Olly Murs.

Bikes of all shapes and sizes can take advantage of the seafront route in a free family event, which began in 2006, and is suitable for all ages.

The Promenade will be closed to traffic from 18:00 BST until 22:30 with the Ride the Lights event starting at 19:00 and finishing at 22:00.

Cyclists can participate at any time during that period and are recommended to join the event at either the Starr Gate or Red Bank Road gateways to the Promenade.

Ride the Lights marks the start of the build-up to the Illuminations season, which starts on 29 August until 4 January.

Council leader Lynn Williams said it was a "brilliant chance" for residents and visitors to "enjoy a truly magical experience".
