Tributes to amateur theatre performer of 40 years

Paul Brammer had a career spanning more than 40 years in show business

Tributes have been paid to a long-standing member of the theatre community who died on Tuesday.

Paul Brammer was known in Staffordshire for his portrayals of pantomime dames and for his scriptwriting.

About a year ago, he marked 40 years in show business, telling BBC Radio Stoke at the time that the sound of laughter kept him going, with magic and pantomime being his passions.

He joined Stoke Amateur Theatre Society (SATS) in 2013, having already been a familiar face in Stoke-on-Trent's amateur theatre community.

The chair of SATS, Amanda Davies, said Mr Brammer was a "very, very dear friend" and he had shared his love of entertaining with audiences and colleagues.

"He was an absolute star," she said.

"Paul's scripts were known widely – not just in Stoke. His work left cast and audiences in fits of laughter - and sometimes floods of tears.

"He couldn't wait to scribble down all his thoughts and when he got on stage it was just amazing to watch."

A spokesperson for the theatre society said it was clear to see how many lives he had touched, both on and off the stage.

"We are honoured to have shared the stage with him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever part of the SATS legacy," they said.

"Best known for his unforgettable portrayals of pantomime dames and his remarkable gift for scriptwriting, Paul brought joy, laughter, and boundless creativity to every production he touched.

"He had a deep love for pantomime - not just the performance but the magic of it. The laughter, the chaos, the storytelling, the sparkle.

"That passion shaped so much of what SATS is today, and we will proudly carry that magic forward in his memory."

A celebration of his life will be held on 30 August at The Bradeley pub on Stratheden Road in Bradeley, Stoke-on-Trent.
