Fire crews using drones to monitor beach blaze

The fire had spread to the marram grass but not the trees behind, Wells Lifeboat said

Firefighters are continuing to monitor a blaze which broke out on a beach cut off by high tide on Thursday.

Wells Lifeboat was needed to help get fire crews and equipment to East Hills, on Bob Hall's Sands, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, to tackle the fire.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue said it is using drones and cameras to monitor the blaze, which continues to produce smoke, and a crew remains at Wells.

A man in his 60s who was arrested on suspicion of arson remains in custody.

At its height, the fire extended between 200m and 300m (655ft to 984ft), according to lifeboat manager Chris Hardy.

The lifeboat received a callout at about 14:15 BST, but no-one needed rescuing.

East Hills is accessible by foot at low tide, but a boat is usually required for access.
