A man who stabbed his estranged wife's new partner in Orkney has been jailed for six-and-a-half years.
Scott Anderson, 36, attacked Stuart Rosie at the victim's home in Kirkwall in February last year.
Anderson had been due to stand trial accused of attempted murder, but admitted a reduced charge of assault to severe injury and the danger of life.
Jailing him at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Summers told Anderson he had an "absolutely appalling" record of criminal behaviour.
The court heard Anderson, who usually stayed in Shetland, already had a number of convictions for violence.
Mr Rosie had a row with his girlfriend, who had split from Anderson in 2022, and the stabbing happened after she called Anderson to collect her.
Prosecutor Faryma Bahrami told the court how the victim had spotted Anderson with a knife when he turned up.
Mr Rosie was initially struck after putting up his hand to stop being hit. He then suffered further blows.
He ended up needing treatment at Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall for injuries to his hand and abdomen.
Lord Summers told Anderson the jail-term would have been seven years, but for the late guilty plea.
