Drivers on the A27 in West Sussex have been told to expect delays following a serious crash.

National Highways said the road was closed in both directions between the junctions for the A24 (Findon) and the A280 (Clapham) because of a crash involving a motorcycle.

Sussex Police, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and the air ambulance attended the scene.

No estimate was given for when the road would reopen but National Highways said police would need to investigate due to the "serious nature of the incident".

Diversions are in place on both the westbound and eastbound roads.

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time," National Highways said.

"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
