An author from Herefordshire has said it is "moving" and "amazing" to see her novel brought to life on television.

BBC series Mix Tape tells the story of a couple who meet in the late 80s, and later reconnect from opposite sides of the world over their shared love of music.

The programme was an adaptation of the novel written by Jane Sanderson who lives near Leominster.

She said: "To know that all that [the set] had been done and all the crew were there, and the catering tent was there, and make-up and wires, and everything was there because I'd written a novel was an amazing feeling."

Ms Sanderson said although she herself only received one mix tape and did not have a romance like her main characters, Daniel and Allison, she wanted to "tap into the power of music".

"I think music can speak for you if you're not particularly articulate," she said.

Despite the series' success, the author admitted that she had initially felt "wounded" by some of the changes made for television but said she now understood why certain elements of the original novel had been altered.

She said: "On the whole it was a really brilliant evocation of my book and it was definitely true to the spirit of the book."

Asked what was next for her and her characters, Ms Sanderson said: "I am writing a companion book to Mix Tape, called Mix Tape Rewind.

"It's going to go back in time again and have a look at two other young people who are actually mentioned in the book.

"Anybody who has read this book will be able to recognise these characters. Allison and Daniel will be in it too but only viewed through the eyes of these first parties."
