A fire which tore through a social club is being treated as suspicious, police said.

The blaze at Low Grange Social Club in Billingham was spotted at about 22:00 BST on Wednesday.

The fire caused extensive damage to the bar area and on the first floor of the building, but it was confirmed there was no-one inside at the time.

An investigation into the fire continues, with officers appealing for witnesses or those with information to come forward.

Cleveland Fire Brigade said crews from Billingham, Middlesbrough and Stockton, were sent to the scene.
