Hull's Oktoberfest will move to a new venue after organisers claim they "cannot make ends meet".

Festival leaders issued a "major update", saying the reason for the move was due to low ticket sales and high costs of planning.

The event, originally scheduled to be held at East Park, will now take place at Social on Humber Street.

Instead of a two-day festival, it will now go ahead as a single celebration on Friday.

Tickets sales have been "incredibly low" this year and "hardly cover much of the estimated £35,000 costs", organisers said.

This cost covers marquees, fencing, security, medical and licencing.

The organisers said they have invested £12,000 into the city's first Oktoberfest.

"We have tried our hardest to keep the event alive, however, due to low ticket sales and inflated prices we simply cannot make ends meet," they said in an announcement.

"It is with heavy heart and deep sadness that we cannot continue as this will not only jeopardise the event but also jeopardise our company and the staff who work for us."

Ticket prices have been reduced to £10 for Friday's event, which takes place from 19:00 BST until 23:30 and tickets for the original event will be refunded.

"We know it's not quite the same but it will be an amazing night," organisers added.
